Feb 8, 2022

In part one of this two-part blog series, we went over some of the basics on what's known as Apple's Optimized Battery Charging mode. Referring to a feature that delays charging past 80% in some cases where the phone recognizes it's being left on the charger for a prolonged period, this mode helps improve battery lifespan and other phone features. At Bad Apple, we're here to offer the very best iPhone repair and related iPhone services to clients from Bountiful to SLC and many other parts of Utah. What else do iPhone users need to know about Optimized Battery Charging mode? Here are some basics.

How to Tell if Optimized Battery Charging is Active

Because this is a feature that can be turned on and off (more on this in a moment), it's important to know how to tell if it's active. There are two easy ways to do this. First, you can go into your phone settings and check the Battery menu option. Under Battery Health, you'll see an entry for Optimized Battery Charging -- simply ensure that this is toggled on.

However, as your phone is actually charging, you will receive an active notification when Optimized Battery Charging is active. The message will also tell you when you can expect the phone to be fully recharged. For example, if your phone is currently at 20% and you're using Optimized Battery Charging, the message will tell you when it's fully recharged (i.e., 100%).

How to Turn Off Optimized Battery Charging

Turning off Optimized Battery Charging requires simply following the same directions as the first option above for checking it. Head to the Battery section in the Settings app on your iPhone. Then, select Optimized Battery Charging and toggle it off. You can always turn it back on later if needed.

Does Android Offer This Feature?

While Android doesn't technically offer this precise feature for any of their phones, they do offer a few similar features. For example, when you're not plugged in, your phone is constantly looking to kill background processes that are using up battery life. So the next time you plug in, many of these applications will have already been killed and are ready for use without delay.

While this isn't exactly the same as Optimized Battery Charging, it's functionally similar. Other features include "Aggressive Doze Mode" which kills background applications when the phone isn't in use, and "Project Volta," an attempt to reduce unnecessary battery drainage while apps are running in the background.

Note: These programs do not necessarily guarantee great battery health in all situations. If your iPhone is having battery issues, bring it in to our team for an inspection and suggested remedies.
