Running out of memory on your phone is always incredibly obnoxious. Times like these can get in the way of taking pictures and videos of special memories, and cause the performance of your iPhone to decrease, drastically. However, there are steps that you can take towards managing and saving memory on your phone to prevent this from happening. Here are a few tips to save memory on your iPhone…
Be sure to check your usage
The first thing you need to do is see what the culprit is that is taking up so much memory on your iPhone. To do this, just go to your iPhone’s storage usage in your settings (Settings > General > Storage & iCloud Usage). In there, you can see how much space you actually have on your iPhone, and how much of it you have left. There is also a “Manage Storage” page where you can see whether it is things like photos or music that is taking up so much memory.
Use cloud storage
In that same usage page on your iPhone, you can see the amount of storage that you have available in the iCloud. Every iPhone comes with a free 5GB of cloud storage, but you can also upgrade to 50GB or 1TB for $.99 and $9.99 per month, respectively. Having cloud storage allows you to part with things on your phone’s hard drive, while knowing that they are backed up in a reliable place.
Reboot your iPhone every now and then
As you use your iPhone, RAM is slowly going to be allotted to apps that are working in your background. Because of this, many people opt to reboot their iPhone’s every now and then, in order to refresh your phone’s inner memory. However, you don’t have to go that far. If you hold down the power button to bring up your phone’s power down screen, and then hold the home button for about 5 seconds, then it will reset your phone’s internal processing memory without having to turn it off.
Clear out text messages, routinely
Surprisingly, text messages can slow down your phone a tremendous amount. Because of this, it is beneficial to clear out your text messages every couple of months to prevent a buildup of memory. Each text message is small, but they add up, over time. You can also set it in your phone so that text messages are only stored for a set period of time, like the past year.
